Hello, Ladies and Gentlemen, my name is Stuart Irvine and is back to start my new series of review of the new wrestling warfare with AEW going against NXT on Wednesday nights. Every week will review both AEW and NXT weekly show’s and see who had the better show each week.
So that begins by looking at AEW first episode of AEW Dynamite.
Cody vs. Sammy Guevara

My Opinion: I really enjoyed the first wrestling match on TNT since 2001, with good back and forth with Sammy Guevara showing what he can do with an amazing high flyer moves and I see great things from him and that Spanish fly off the top rope was a thing of beauty as well as that reverse super suplex by Cody off the top rope.
I like that Cody matches so far are against people that we don’t know that well and gives them the limelight. He gets the win with roll-up which is fine because the goal of the match to make Cody and Sammy Guevara both look good and it did that. But an overall great start to the show and when it’s your first episode on TV you have to start with a bang and I think they did here.

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5
- Then, as Tony Schiavone was about interview Cody, Chris Jericho attacked Coby which is pretty much Chris Jericho MO in AEW with him attacking people from behind. But it’s an old school beat down it did last longer than I think it needed to be, but it did it’s job and made Jericho look like a strong Le champion.
But one thing I noticed is that for a guy that loses the AEW World Title Belt in his hotel room, maybe shouldn’t be so careless as to keep leaving the belt all the time hahaha, but a good beat down.
MJF vs. Brandon Cutler

My Opinion: A good solid match to pull over the most talked about thing in AEW right now MJF. It only lasted 2 minutes but that all it needs to be, and Brandon Cutler did look good for a guy that was just there to put over MJF and his ability in the ring I think the may do something with him in the future.
But MJF gets the win and I think this may be a thing where he gets short matches against jobbers/unknowns to build him up even more and in a couple of months with be challenging for that AEW World Title mark my words.

Overall rating: 2.5 out of 5
- Kevin Smith & Jason Mewes were at ringside and were interviewed by Chris Van Vliet to hype their Jay & Silent Bob reboot, that Jericho is in. Then Private Party come out to make fun of them and got owned by Jason so fun little segment.
- SCU gets interviewed about the Tag Team Tournament that starts next week and then The Lucha Bros interrupts and says some words and then they brawl I can’t wait for this match in the Tag Team Tournament to happen.
Pac vs. Hangman Page

My Opinion: An amazing match with both using their speed and high flying ability to great effect, and was a fast-paced and definitely actioned packed. Some of the counters from both of these men were amazing, but Pac gets the win after a low blow, Red Arrow, and Brutalize.
Both men looked strong but Pac more so because since coming back at All Out he has now beaten Kenny Omega and now Hangman Page, so he looked like a big star and a real threat to anyone he faces. Also, love the old school protecting of that Brutalize submission finisher because now you know if he locks that in your done.
My Rating: 4 out of 5
Nyle Rose vs. Riho for the Inaugural AEW Women’s Championship

My Opinion: A really good fun edge of your seat match, each woman could have won. I liked the dynamic for the Monster vs sweet babyface and they played that up a lot with a lot of moments of Nyle Rose using her strength to get the advance.
The storytelling was done really well here and the crowd were really into this match and when Riho got the win they when nuts The right person won as the people are really into Riho because she is so sweet and loveable and I look forward to seeing where she can take the AEW Women’s division.

My Rating: 3.5 out of 5
After the match, Michael Nakazawa was going to interview Riho about her win but was attacked by Nyle Rose and she powerbomb which she at first couldn’t get Nakazawa up for.
Was going to hit Riho with a death valley driver on the outside, but Omega makes the save.
Which I could see a mix tag match with them too in the future and this made Nyle Rose still look strong even If she lose the match.
The Elite vs. Chris Jericho, Santana, & Ortiz.

My Opinion: Wow they did put everything into this main event didn’t they, with six men, a returning Jon Moxley, high flying attack etc and it didn’t feel conjugated and had some time to breathe between these moments. The brawl between Omega and Moxley was really cool and that The Death Rider on the glass table looks like that much of hurt.
But really good finish to the match when Jericho intercepted Bucks attempted to hit the Meltzer Driver with a code breaker then after a cannonball double team in the corner that set up the Judas effect for the win. Which was the right call as Santana, & Ortiz are new to AEW and need the win as well as Jericho continue making him look strong.
But good way to end their first episode by AEW Dynamite on TNT.

My Rating: 4 out of 5
After the match Jericho, Santana and Ortiz started beating down the Young Bucks, Coby comes out for the save but is low blowed by Sammy Guevara, then Dusty Rhones comes out to help his brother. But, the big surprise was the debut of Jake Hager (AKA Jake Swagger) to attack Dusty then put him through a table with the heels standing tall at the end.
A nice brawl to finish the show and I didn’t see Jake Hager coming and I don’t think anyone did and was introduction great here with me interested to watch next weeks show. Maybe this is the birth of a new heel group in AEW which I really hope so and should have some cool faction warfare then is missing in pro wrestling these days.

Final Thoughts:

So overall a pretty solid debut episode of AEW Dynamite, with all the match being good quality and making everyone look good. All of the two hours weren’t wasted and wasn't bored throughout which is a great start for AEW.
The best match was Pac vs. Hangman Page in my opinion but Nyle Rose vs. Riho was a very close second. I’m so happy that ITV changed their schedule so that the UK fans only have to wait one day to watch AEW.
Which is so cool and more likely for me to watch every week as I definitely will. But good show to build on and for the first time in a while looking forward to the next episode of a wrestling show.
