Welcome to season 3 of my Best Matches series: where I look at some of Stone Cold Steve Austin's Greatest Matches from him being Stunning Steve Austin to Raising Hell on Mr McMahan during the Attitude Era. I got some of these matches of the Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD which was released in 2007.
Check out the last two seasons:
Kenny Omega (Season 1)
Becky Lynch (Season 2)
So next we look at his match with Kurt Angle for the WWF Title at Summerslam 2001.
Season 3 Episode Nine
WWF Championship Match Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Kurt Angle SummerSlam • August 19, 2001

I've got to be honest here and I forgot how good this match, with both men being at their best. As much as some people hate the heel Stone Cold, but in this match, it shows it did have some cool moments and with the right story people could really hate Stone Cold.
But the story of this match was Stone Cold doing anything to keep the WWF title and keep it with the alliance (I know, I know the invasion storyline wasn't the greatest haha), and at first, he outwrested Kurt Angle but wasn't being about to put him away.
Then, when Angle kicked out of the first stunner, Austin when crazy and those five-shots into the ring post looked brutal (So much blood on Angle's face). But, when he was taking out ref after ref, which would normally be a bad way to end a match, in this case, it worked because it totally fits with Austin's character (he was a desperate man and would do anything to win).
Also, this was the making of the Kurt Angle that we know and love, with this being his first face run and everyone was behind him to win here. As we know this was a way to set up another match at Unforgiven (I miss these PPV name haha) where he won the WWF title made more important with 9/11 just happening weeks prior.
But it's worth checking out this match and I wish these guys had more matches in their heyday because they had good chemistry and every match they were in was at the highest quality. But overall great wrestling here and once again shows how awesome this era was to make title matches feel special.
Verdict: 9 out of 10
