Welcome to Season 5 of my Best Matches series: where I look at the best matches of a certain wrestler. This season I look at one of the best wrestling reinventors of all time (my opinion, of course, haha) and distant family member Chris Jericho (no proof of that, just that his real-life surname is Irvine so you never know haha).

I'll look at his time in WCW, his battles in the 2000s with the likes of Triple and The Rock, to his late WWE career, his time at New Japan etc. If you want to look at my previous series then click on the link below.

(These posts will be once a week and not every day as in the previous series. So every Wednesday at 1 pm (UK Time) these reviews will be up)

Check out the last four seasons:

Kenny Omega (Season 1)

Becky Lynch (Season 2)

Stone Cold Steve Austin (Season 3)

Eddie Guerrero (Season 4)

So in the series finale, we look at Chris Jericho's Shawn Michaels, when he faced Shawn Michaels in a Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship at No Mercy 2008.

Season 5 Episode Twelve

Single Match Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels Wrestlemania 19 • 30th March 2003

So we end it all with this epic encounter between these two greats at Wrestlemania 19 and what a classic it was. I love the basic idea of Chris Jericho wanting to show that he is better than Shawn Michaels and will do everything to prove it.

It was interesting going in with this being Jericho's biggest match to date and Shawn's first since his return in 2002 so a lot of high expectations going into this one. Love the counters, the chemistry these two have as it is obvious that these two styles work well as they are very similar.

Jericho working on the back worked as Shawn had back problems in the past (wished Shawn sold it more haha), with Jericho having Shawn in the Walls of Jericho a couple of times during the match up. But the counters and near falls were on the money and when Jericho hit the sweet chin music on Shawn I thought it was over (Love heels hit their opponents finishing moves haha).

But outstanding matchup, it did everything it needed to do, showing Jericho can perform at Wrestlemania and for Shawn showing that he can still go after his return. But, just when you thought Jericho couldn’t be more of a dick, he kicks Shawn in the nut for the lose, classic moment and one of the most memorable of all time.

Overall, it's a great match to end the series with it being a perfect mentor vs mentee kind of match and it made everyone look great. But definitely check this match out if you want to watch pro wrestling at its very best.

Verdict: 9 out of 10
