Welcome to Season 5 of my Best Matches series: where I look at the best matches of a certain wrestler. This season I look at one of the best wrestling reinventors of all time (my opinion, of course, haha) and distant family member Chris Jericho (no proof of that, just that his real-life surname is Irvine so you never know haha).

I'll look at his time in WCW, his battles in the 2000s with the likes of Triple and The Rock, to his late WWE career, his time at New Japan etc. If you want to look at my previous series then click on the link below.

(These posts will be once a week and not every day as in the previous series. So every Wednesday at 1 pm (UK Time) these reviews will be up)

Check out the last four seasons:

Kenny Omega (Season 1)

Becky Lynch (Season 2)

Stone Cold Steve Austin (Season 3)

Eddie Guerrero (Season 4)

Next, we look at Chris Jericho's blowoff of the epic storyline between Shawn Michaels, when he faced Shawn Michaels in a Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship at No Mercy 2008.

Season 5 Episode Eleven

Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship Chris Jericho vs. Shawn Michaels No Mercy 2008 • 5th October 2008

Now that how you end a feud that was so epic and you could say is Chris Jericho best? I think a ladder match is a perfect way to end the feud as the ladder match is what made Shawn famous and Jericho wants to prove he is better than Shawn.

I do love some of the spots with the back suplex off the ladder on the announce table and Jericho working on the eye and Shawn working on the leg, that works in the finish. The intensity of Shawn wanting to hurt Jericho like throwing ladders at him etc was cool and added to the personal nature of this match.

That ending is one of my favourites as it is like a tug of war for the title and really had tension as you didn’t know who was going to win, Lance Cade getting involved made sense as he is Jericho lackey. The headbutt on Shawn to knock him off the ladder was a pretty great ending to an amazing 20 minutes ladder match.

Overall, it was a great paced ladder match with a great mix of story and action and as I have said is a great blow-off to this long-running feud between two of the greats. But definitely up there with one of the best ladder matches in WWE history and if you want a match that has story and entertainment value then check this match out

Verdict: 9 out of 10
