Welcome to Season 3 of my Best Matches series: where I look at some of Stone Cold Steve Austin's Greatest Matches from him being Stunning Steve Austin to Raising Hell on Mr McMahan during the Attitude Era. I got some of these matches of the Legacy of Stone Cold Steve Austin DVD which was released in 2007.

So next we look at his WWF Title match against Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 14.

Season 3 Episode Six

WWF Championship Match Stone Cold Steve Austin vs. Shawn Michaels WrestleMania 14 • March 29, 1998

This match is remembered for superkick reversal, one Sunner and JR saying STONE COLD, STONE COLD, STONE COLD, and a classic is born. They pull out all the stops for this one Mike Tyson as an enforcer, Chris Warren doing the DX Theme and you name it they did it.

A match that racked in at 20 minutes and with Michaels working hurt and Austin just coming back with his neck injury you can see that they weren’t working 100%. But a lot of this match was outside the ring with a lot of inferences and attacks from behind in it (I guess to cover up this shortcoming).

But the crowd were hot for this match, which helps when the match isn’t at its best. But the story was Shawn working on Austin’s injured leg and trying to stop the use of the stunner. It was a bit weird that Shawn hit Austin with the ring bell and it wasn’t a DQ (I guess the ref didn’t see it haha).

But that stunner and the reaction was really great to see and the Mike Tyson KO punch on Shawn was awesome and at the time that was a big deal. But overall a great moment and what WrestleMania is all about.

Verdict: 8 out of 10
